Oprah Winfrey on Twitter

It was bound to happen sooner or later. Oprah Winfrey is now on Twitter, and you can follow her at what else but @Oprah.

She currently has zero updates, doesn’t follow anyone, and already she has 23,939 followers. Many of which probably came from this status update by Ashton Kutcher.

Over the past four months, Twitter has experienced explosive growth, and the fact that Oprah could become a prominent figure on the site will only help to continue that hockey stick like trend. Should Oprah decide to actively participate in the Twitter community, so will every housewife in America. But still, the one question that will remain is how the hell will Twitter make money with all of these users?

Oh, and if you have done so already…follow me on Twitter.

DiggBar Review: Friend or Foe?

Digg Bar Cry Babies

Last week Digg released the DiggBar which resulted in plenty of criticism. The most widespread complaints seem to be that there is a loss of SEO benefits for content providers, and also the DiggBar url is what will be bookmarked by the user, as opposed to that of the content provider.

I’ll tell you straight out, right now I love the DiggBar and here’s why…

Less blind Digging (I hope)

People are lazy and have no problem blind Digging a story based on a title and the description of an article. As the content provider, this has absolutely no benefit to you unless you hit the front page of Digg. Now with the DiggBar, there’s really no excuse not to click through for content that you’re interested in, because the DiggBar gives you everything you need (Digg button, link back to Digg, link to the post, the ability to share the link, and the ability to kill the DiggBar.

Your CPM’s won’t suffer

Even with the DiggBar, your site will still serve up ad impressions to the reader. I don’t know about you, but most of my sites have over 60% of their traffic coming from referring sites, and the revenue they generate is through the CPM advertising model. Essentially, I don’t care how people get there. I’m going to get paid regardless of whether or not the reader viewed my content in the DiggBar iframe.

You can ditch the Digg toolbar

I hate toolbars because they just make for a painful web browsing experience. I avoid them at all costs, unless of course it’s a toolbar that will increase my productivity. With the DiggBar, you’re essentially getting the Digg toolbar, but only when you need it.

It’s a URL shortener

By simply adding “http://digg.com/” before any URL, you automatically get a shortened Digg URL. If you are really lazy, you can even add the DiggBar button to your bookmark toolbar, and it will shorten the URL with the click of a button.

Take that tinyurl.com!

Big Thanks To The Truth

Paul Pierce Suite

Wow. The Celts put on a great show tonight at the Garden. Best of all, I had the chance to sit in Paul Pierce’s suite, compliments of the Truth himself and Twitter. Also I happened to bump into my friend Maureen who works in premium ticket sales, and the Celtics won, so overall it was a great night. FYI, if you’re company hasn’t rented a suite at the Garden for a C’s game yet, Maureen is the girl you want to talk to (shoot me an email and I’ll put you in touch with her).

So the game was awesome, Big Baby deserves some Band-Aid endorsement money after the performance he put on, and everyone in the suite had an absolute blast. Just want to give a huge thanks to the Truth, and if you haven’t done so, join Twitter and follow the man immediately.

Paul Pierce meets Twitter users

This morning I received an email from a buddy saying that Paul Pierce (@paulpierce34) was now on Twitter and he was going to give away tickets to the first 5 fans to meet him at the player’s entrance of the Garden. The only catch was that you had to be wearing a Paul Pierce jersey, and you had to say the password, which was “Truth”.

From @paulpierce34

aight on my way to arena b there at 430 with my jersey players entrance free tiket to game only got 5 left hurry up passcode is truth

At first I wasn’t going to go, as I figured I’d be standing there with a couple other saps while someone took a picture of us and posted it on Twitter with the caption “Look at these suckers”. Not the case.

When I arrived there was already a group of five fans, which quickly grew to about ten. Almost exactly on the dot at 4:30, a Range Rover with California plates and tinted windows pulled up. The window rolled down and Paul Pierced asked us what the password was. Everyone shouted “Truth” and he started dishing out tickets.

It got slightly chaotic as there was no real line to get a ticket. The crowd just closed in on the Truth and people started reaching out for tickets. Luckily, I was able to score a ticket and will be heading up to the Truth’s suite in about an hour.

So if you were wondering, yes, Paul Pierce is on Twitter.
